Your property’s tax assessment is the primary component of the real estate tax bill and reduction thereof is instrumental in reducing your tax liability.
Only Hyde Park, Jefferson, Orland, Northfield, Schaumburg, Thornton, Lake, Rich, Hanover, North Chicago, Niles, South Chicago and Bloom Townships remain for the Cook County Assessor’s 2017 session and the respective deadlines can be found here: http://www.cookcountyassessor.com/Appeals/Appeal-Deadlines.aspx. If your property is located in any of these townships, you must review your property’s assessed value once it is published and take action through an appeal at this first stage of the process.
Cook County Board of Review session for the 2017 tax year is now open and the filing deadline for the following townships is August 30, 2017 deadline: Barrington; Cicero; Evanston; Norwood Park; Oak Park; Palatine; River Forest; Riverside; and, Rogers Park.
For properties located in the Collar Counties, be sure to check your local newspapers and County websites for the publication of assessments and deadlines, e.g.: DuPage (http://www.dupageco.org/SOA/1486/), Lake (http://www.lakecountyil.gov/527/Filing-Deadlines), McHenry (https://www.co.mchenry.il.us/county-government/departments-a-i/assessments/township-filing-deadlines), and Will (http://www.willcountysoa.com/board-of-review/assessments-appeals-process.aspx).
